Charleston County School District Embraces New Technologies to Improve Student Literacy and Learning

Continuing its efforts to improve student literacy, Charleston County School District (CCSD) has purchased the Capstone Interactive LibraryTM, a technology-based reading solution which helps preK-8 students practice reading.

MANKATO, MN, August 06, 2009 /E-Learning PR News/ -- Continuing its efforts to improve student literacy, Charleston County School District (CCSD) has purchased the Capstone Interactive LibraryTM, a technology-based reading solution which helps preK-8 students practice reading while learning vocabulary and pronunciation skills. All students in the district will have unlimited access to the collection of more than 200 interactive books from their school libraries, classrooms, and homes.

Principals, media specialists, and teachers in the district will participate in a series of professional development seminars in August to learn how to incorporate Capstone Interactive Library into their schools, classrooms, and libraries to help improve students' reading scores. The training will include specially developed lesson plans as well as a connection to quizzes that will help assess the students understanding of the interactive books.

"Capstone Interactive Library gets kids excited and motivated to read and learn," said CCSD Media Services Spokesperson Connie Dopierala. "We're looking forward to learning how to get the most out of this flexible program to engage our students, increase their vocabulary, comprehension, phonemic awareness, and fluency."

"Capstone Interactive Library offers interactive and engaging technology for reading practice," said Todd Brekhus, President of Digital Solutions at Capstone Publishers. "Research supports the idea that multimedia technology engages reluctant readers, raises achievement scores for struggling readers, and bridges the language and achievement gaps for English Language Learners. By purchasing Capstone Interactive Library, Charleston is embracing students' aptitude for an integrated approach to literacy through technology."

CCSD is the second largest school district in South Carolina, serving approximately 42,500 students in 77 schools. Capstone Interactive Library is a product of Capstone Publishers, the leading publisher of fiction and nonfiction books in the U.S. education market.
