Medical Career Prep Provides Free Training for Potential Coding & Billing Specialist

Medical Career Prep (MCP) offers a free certification level Medical Terminology for Coders course to 200 registrants during the first seven days of each month.

/E-Learning PR News/ - BOSTON, MA, June 17, 2007 - Medical Career Prep, an online training provider for the health care industry, says it will provide free training to people who are interested in pursuing professional coding and billing certifications.

There is a critical shortage of allied health care professionals and, according the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the billing and coding professions are the fastest growing in terms of available jobs. This means that unless more people get training and certification, this shortage will worsen.

"Our goal is to assist individuals with making a firm health care career decision by allowing them to take, free of charge, our Medical Terminology for Coders course," said Leonard Cox, Adjunct Professor at Roxbury Community College in Boston, MA. Only the first 200 participants can register at the medical career prep website from anywhere in the world during the first seven days of each month. The course covers medical terminology for ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding.

Senator Maria Cantwell introduced legislation to address the critical shortage of workers in the allied health professions. Cantwell's bill, the Allied Health Reinvestment Act (S. 2491), is cosponsored by Sen. Jeff Bingaman and Sen. Joe Lieberman. Cantwell observed, "Creating greater opportunities in the allied health professions will not only improve patient care, it will spur job growth and help boost our economy. Training people to fill these openings could create more than 40,000 jobs. "

"Senator Cantwell's legislation will help us meet the high demand for training in allied health professions," said Dr. Gary Livingston, Chancellor and CEO of the Community Colleges of Spokane.

Professor Cox adds, "We applaud Senator Cantwell's efforts and hope to help make a difference in the critical shortage of allied health professionals."
